Science
We have had great fun in science finding out about pushes and pulls. We have also done investigations and found out about friction. We love science!
What Is Coming Up...
We have two fantastic topics
planned, starting with ‘Our Great Outdoors’ and then in the second half of the
term we will be doing ‘Fighting Fit’.
When planning our topics
we always take the children’s ideas into account. For ‘Our Great Outdoors’ the children have
already come up with lots of questions they would like to find the answer to,
so we will be doing lots of research.
Our science focus for this topic is plants and animals in our local
environment so don’t be surprised if the children come home full of facts about
slugs, worms and other minibeasts! We
also hope to produce some lovely art based on the work of Monet and O’Keeffe –
both artists were fascinated by the beauty of nature and this inspired their
paintings. If the children have any
books or items that are related to our topic which they would like to share
with the class, please encourage them to bring them in – however I do draw the
line at spiders!
Watch this space for updates on what we are doing this term.

ECO Day
As part of our school Eco-Day, Year 2 thought about how we can help the environment by travelling to school in different ways rather than always using the car. We made our Eco Pledges about how we can be more environmentally friendly on our carbon footprints, which are now on display. We are trying really hard to remember to turn off the lights in the classroom and think about the planet.
Remember, it's all about going GREEN!

Sandfield Farm
On Thursday 21st March we went to Sandfield Farm and had a very muddy but fantastic time!
We started off with a quiz about Victorian superstitions then went on a long walk and learnt about Victorian farming. Did you know that they didn't have tractors? They used shire horses instead.
We played a fun Victorian game called 'Geordie Ball' and then worked in groups to make a piece of Victorian furniture out of leaves, branches, sticks, logs, twigs and rope.
After lunch we had a wonderful time in the play wood where some of us made a castle for Queen Victorian.
Another great day down on the farm!

Our William Morris Designs
As part of our Victorians topic, we have looked at the beautiful designs by William Morris. The children looked carefully at his use of colour and how he draws flowers and leaves.
The children have created their own designs and they look fantastic!
