Netbooks!

Year 2 have been really enjoying using our new netbooks to do research and make information sheets about Simon de Montfort and the Battle of Evesham.

Making Bird Feeders

Yesterday we made recyclable bird feeders as part of 'Our Great Outdoors' topic.  We had to follow instructions very carefully to make them.  We will be hanging them on the tree outside our classroom in hope that more birds will come to visit us.

Our Beautiful Artwork

As part of our topic we have been looking at the artist, Georgia O'Keeffe and how she was inspired by nature.  We have tried hard to recreate one of her paintings using water colours and we have used pastels to draw tomatoes in her style.  Year 2 are amazing artists.

Minibeast Workshop

Yesterday we had a fantastic workshop about minibeasts and animals that can be found in the wild around the world.  The children learnt so much about the animals and were very brave!
Thank you to all the parents who came and took part - you were just as brave too!

Science

We have had great fun in science finding out about pushes and pulls.  We have also done investigations and found out about friction.  We love science!

What Is Coming Up...

We have two fantastic topics planned, starting with ‘Our Great Outdoors’ and then in the second half of the term we will be doing ‘Fighting Fit’.

When planning our topics we always take the children’s ideas into account.  For ‘Our Great Outdoors’ the children have already come up with lots of questions they would like to find the answer to, so we will be doing lots of research.  Our science focus for this topic is plants and animals in our local environment so don’t be surprised if the children come home full of facts about slugs, worms and other minibeasts!  We also hope to produce some lovely art based on the work of Monet and O’Keeffe – both artists were fascinated by the beauty of nature and this inspired their paintings.  If the children have any books or items that are related to our topic which they would like to share with the class, please encourage them to bring them in – however I do draw the line at spiders!

ECO Day

As part of our school Eco-Day, Year 2 thought about how we can help the environment by travelling to school in different ways rather than always using the car.  We made our Eco Pledges about how we can be more environmentally friendly on our carbon footprints, which are now on display.  We are trying really hard to remember to turn off the lights in the classroom and think about the planet.

Remember, it's all about going GREEN!
