Winter Wonderland

This half-term we have been so busy with our latest topic, 'Winter Wonderland' and this week we also started to rehearse our Christmas show, 'Hey Ewe!'

We have produced some fantastic literacy work based on stories such as, 'The Polar Bear Son: An Inuit Tale', 'Ka-ha-si and the Loon: An Eskimo Legend' and 'Rainbow Bear'.

In numeracy we have been recognising the line of symmetry in 2-d shapes and created our own symmetrical snowflakes, which look beautiful displayed on our classroom window.

Here are some photos of our art work - we studied the Northern Lights and re-created them using pastels.  They look amazing! Here are a few examples:

Roly Poly Birds

This week we have been reading 'The Twits' by Roald Dahl and we have been learning to follow, read and write our own instructions.  Today we had to follow instructions to make the Roly-Poly Bird.  They look so bright and colourful but they were also fun to make!

Our Beautiful Sunflowers

As part of our topic called 'Famous Faces' we have looked at Vincent van Gogh's sunflowers.  We felt very inspired by his painting and so we have created our own.  They look so beautiful on display for everyone to see.  Year 2 should be very proud of themselves.

Famous Faces Day at Sandfield Farm

On Thursday 20th September we spent the day at Sandfield Farm and had a fantastic time.  First we went for a long walk and Emma told us all about the Gloucester cows because we were going to find out about the famous doctor, Edward Jenner who discovered the small pox vaccine based on cow pox using the Gloucester cow, Blossom.

Next we went on a nature walk and looked at the beautiful sunflowers. We talked about why they are called sunflowers and how Vincent van Gogh was inspired by them.

Afterwards we collected natural objects on our walk and made our own famous faces.  These are just a selection of them:

Later that day we went to the play wood and some of us made the marvellous medicine from Roald Dahl's 'George's Marvellous Medicine' which we have been reading in literacy.

What a busy but wonderful day!

Our New Classroom

Over the summer our classroom was extended and now we have a large new classroom which is bright and airy.  Aren't we lucky!  There is lots of room so that we can have an art area and a role play zone.  It's a wonderful place to learn :-)
