Enjoying Gymnastics

In gymnastics we continued to develop our balancing skills. Last week we learnt how to point balance using the small part of our body. This week we learnt how to do patch balances using the larger parts of our body. We then worked in pairs to perform a sequence of patch and point balances, using mirror image.

RE - Famous Faces

In RE we are learning about Famous Christians as part of our 'Famous Faces' topic. This week we learnt about the famous Italian Saint Francis of Assisi. In pairs we used the net-books to find out about his life and how he became a Saint.

European Day of Languages

On Thursday 26th September we celebrated European Day of Languages. The children went around the Key Stage 1 classrooms in their Houses, each house looked at a different country. In Queen, Mrs Hickey planned activities about Romania. We learnt useful Romanian phrases such as, hello - 'Salut', goodbye - 'La revedere' and good morning - 'Buna dimineata'. We also learnt how to count to 10 in Romanian. We found out that Romania is famous for its beautiful palaces and castles. The Bran Castle is the setting for the Myth of Dracula and lots of tourists visit the Castle. We made Dracula masks and coloured the Romanian flag. We had a fantastic day and enjoyed learning about all the countries.

Our Marvellous Visit to the Farm

On Wednesday 25th September we went to Sandfield Farm and our leader, Emma had planned some lovely activities which linked to our topic, 'Famous Faces'.  In literacy we have been reading Roald Dahl's 'George's Marvellous Medicine' and on the farm we went on a nature walk collecting all sorts of seeds, berries, leaves, fruits and grains as ingredients for our own marvellous medicines.  We also got the chance to look at sunflowers up close and thought about how Vincent van Gogh was inspired by these flowers.  In the afternoon we had a great time playing in the wood, especially with the mud kitchen where we made even more revolting recipes for George's medicine!

Gymnastics

At Sedgeberrow First School we are keen to promote a healthy lifestyle and exercise is part of this.  As well as going swimming Year 2 are enjoying gymnastics in PE lessons. The focus at the moment is learning how to point balance using different parts of the body. We performed a sequence of point balances in pairs. It was good fun!

Punctuation Detectives

In literacy we discovered that some punctuation had gone missing so we had to go on a hunt to find it.  We talked about where to use different types of punctuation in our writing and then had to put the missing punctuation into sentences from Roald Dahl's 'The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me'.  We were excellent detectives!

Maths Wizards

Today in numeracy we have been working really hard to partition numbers into their place-value.  We did really well finding the hundreds, tens and units. Well done Year 2!
