Trip to the Almonry Museum

As part of our topic about 'Famous Faces' we went to the local museum, 'The Almonry' and learnt about local famous people in history.

We found out that Evesham is named after a pig farmer called Eof and that Evesham was once a very small place called Homme.  One day Eof was looking after the pigs down by the River Avon when he saw the Virgin Mary.  This was such a miracle that the Bishop Ecgwin was called and he too saw the vision of Mary.  After this, the land was declared holy and the Abbey was built.  Over times Eof's name and the place of Homme were put together to form 'Eoveshomme' and eventually, 'Evesham'.

We also learnt about Simon de Montfort and the Battle of Evesham in 1265.  We got to try on armour that Simon and his soldiers would have worn and we found out how he was tricked by Prince Edward into thinking his son had arrived in Green Hill with more men to fight, when actually it was the King's army who had come to fight him in battle.

We had such an interesting day and learnt so much about our local history!

World Book Day

We had a lovely World Book Day and dressed up as our favourite characters.  Thank you to all the parents for helping to make such wonderful costumes.

This term we have been looking at Roald Dahl stories and on World Book Day we created our own Dream Jar based on 'The BFG'. We have made a display in the classroom which looks beautiful.

DT - bird feeders

We have had a lovely few days designing, making and evaluating our bird feeders as part of Eco week. The eco committee have asked us to create things that will attract more wildlife into our school grounds and we decided to make bottle bird feeders to hang outside our classroom.  Over the next few weeks we are going to watch and keep count of the birds that come to try out our designs.

We have hung them on the fence so you can see them but we are hoping to put them in places with better camouflage to encourage the birds to come.
