Victorians

Since the beginning of January, we have been doing a fantastic topic all about the Victorians and this topic is going to continue right up until Easter.

Yesterday we went to school as Victorian children and learnt about the type of lessons that were taught and the rules.  It was very different to school life today and Year 2 found it surprising that Victorian children were only allowed to write with their right hand and ran the risk of having their fingers put in stocks if they fiddled while in lessons.

The girls and boys had to sit separately in rows.

The children had to practise good posture and deportment

To keep fit there would be 'drill' lessons.

Year 2 had to write their names on slates.

After all that hard work at a Victorian School the children were allowed some play time with Victorian toys.

We had class photographs and although we had lots of fun at the workshop, we didn't smile in the photos because we wanted to look like real Victorians and they didn't smile when they had a photo taken.
